The Riverside Village
I’m excited to share my latest environment, created in Unreal Engine 5. This project was both a personal challenge and a creative journey — my goal was to build a complete environment from the ground up while capturing a sense of atmosphere, life, and narrative within the scene.
The inspiration came from a beautiful painting by Lodewijk Johannes Kleijn, whose work captivated me with its mood and storytelling. I set out to reinterpret that atmosphere in 3D, striking a balance between realism and painting.

Harnessing the power of Nanite and Lumen in UE5 allowed me to focus more on artistic direction and exploration rather than technical limitations. This gave me space to dive deeper into:
Composition & visual balance
Color and mood exploration
Storytelling through environment design
I modelled every building and structural element from scratch, while using Megascans to complement the scene with high-quality foliage and natural details. This workflow helped me achieve both efficiency and richness in the final environment.
This project has been an invaluable learning experience, helping me grow as an artist and refine my approach to world-building. I’d also like to thank my friends for their constructive feedback, which played a big role in shaping the final result.
